A major education partnership between Ghana and Japan is set to transform the delivery of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Special Needs Education across the country.
Formalised by Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the initiative also has the backing of Japan’s Ministry of Education (MEXT) and Life is Tech.
At the core of the agreement is a new coding curriculum that will empower over 1.35 million Ghanaian students with critical digital skills.
The partnership also seeks to build capacity through the training of teachers, improvement of institutional infrastructure, and curriculum modernisation.
Special attention will be given to vulnerable groups, with inclusive policies aimed at addressing educational inequalities.
Moreover, the initiative supports green skills development in the TVET sector and embeds principles of sustainability within the broader school curriculum.
“Education is the most powerful tool for building peaceful, resilient, and sustainable societies,” said Minister Iddrisu.
He highlighted Japan’s global leadership in sustainability education and praised the collaboration as a vital step towards a greener, knowledge-based Ghanaian economy.
