Two suspected armed robbers were shot and killed by police on July 30, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation near Afrefreso in the Bono East Region.
According to police sources, the operation conducted at 10:30 a.m. by PID teams from headquarters and Bono East Region, was in response to a robbery incident that occurred the previous evening, July 29, around 7:00 p.m. on the Amantin–Atebubu highway.
Victims, including one Duodu, were reportedly attacked by a group of over ten armed men, some masked and others unmasked, who ambushed commuters from the bush.
Duodu later identified two of the suspects—Baba and his brother Manu—as residents of Afrefreso, despite them wearing face coverings during the attack.
When officers moved in to arrest the suspects at their hideout, Baba allegedly attempted to attack police with a machete. Officers fired in an attempt to subdue him. Manu, on the other hand, reportedly tried to flee and was also shot.
A search of Manu’s waist bag revealed a locally manufactured pistol. Officers also found talismans and spiritual artifacts in their room, believed to be used for protection during criminal activities.
The injured suspects were rushed to the Atebubu Municipal Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue.
