Accra, July 25, 2025 — In a resounding affirmation of Ghana’s public sector transformation agenda, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, delivered a powerful keynote address at the climax of the 2025 Civil Service Week Celebration and 2024 Awards Ceremony, held at Alisa Hotels.
Under the theme “Adapting to Automation, Artificial Intelligence and E-Governance: The Civil Service in Contemporary Ghana”, the event brought together public service leaders, development partners, and private sector collaborators to honour excellence and reaffirm commitment to a modernized civil service.
Speaking on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff saluted the resilience and professionalism of civil servants who have remained pivotal to national stability, especially during political transitions. “You give effect to the policy intentions of government,” he noted. “The Civil Service is the invisible hand that facilitates the visible success of every government policy.”
Institutionalizing Innovation and Corporate Governance
Hon. Debrah emphasized the importance of institutionalizing best practices and upholding corporate governance standards across all tiers of the public sector. He reiterated the Mahama administration’s unwavering commitment to building a future-ready, ethically driven and technologically equipped Civil Service.
“The future will not wait,” he declared. “The digital revolution is not coming—it is already here. The question is, will the Ghana Civil Service lead it, or follow it? I believe you can lead it—and yes, you must.”
He highlighted critical government reforms, including the renaming of the Ministry of Communications to the Ministry of Digital Technology and Innovations, the launch of Ghana’s National AI Strategy, and the transformative “One Million Coders” programme aimed at skilling up the country’s youth to drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ghana.
A Call to Excellence and Sustainability
The Chief of Staff made a passionate case for the annual institutionalization of the Civil Service Awards as a vehicle to promote meritocracy, reward excellence, and foster accountability.
“Such regular recognition is essential in promoting a culture of excellence, discouraging mediocrity and driving improved performance across the Service,” he urged.
To the awardees, he offered heartfelt congratulations, describing them as “proof that excellence in the public sector is not a dream but a reality.”
